A plasma display apparatus is provided to eliminate dark image retention due to accumulated charges by using a front filter having a polarizing film for controlling electric field strength of a transmitted light. Plural electrodes are formed on a plasma display panel(720). A frame(760) is formed on a rear surface of the plasma display panel. A driving unit(770) is formed on a rear surface of the frame to drive the plasma display panel. A front filter(750) is formed on a front surface of the plasma display panel. The front filter has a polarizing film(750b) for controlling electric field strength of a transmitted light. At least one functional layer is laminated to form the front filter. The polarizing film is formed on at least one functional film of the functional layers.
