The unit has a speed shifter lever (12) fitted in a ball joint (13) situated between control upper and transmission lower ends (18, 22). The joint has a spherical shell (40) pierced in oblong upper and lower recess, where the lever crosses the recess and pivots in displacement across the shell. A deformable connection unit (44) has an external wall and is housed in the shell to connect the lever and shell together. The wall is connected to an internal wall of the shell so that vibratory movement of the lever is around a central point in a plane perpendicular to an insertion finger (24).
