A recovering device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to record and manage loss information in a nonvolatile memory area of a lost portable terminal by a service provider who receives a loss report, thereby preventing a finder from illegally using the lost terminal. A wireless unit(100) detects/outputs loss information wirelessly transmitted from an MSC(Mobile Switching Center), and wirelessly transceives a communication signal. A controller(110) records, outputs, and deletes the loss information applied by a control signal of the MSC in and from a loss recorder(140). The loss recorder(140) records, outputs, and deletes the loss information in nonvolatile type, in and from an allocated area. An input/output unit(130) inputs/outputs the communication signal, and inputs a control command and a dialing signal. A memory(120) records, manages, and outputs program and data in and from the allocated area.
