PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus effectively detecting wrapping of a recording medium to a rotating surface of a rotating body in a transporting mechanism. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with the transporting mechanism with a rotating body and the recording material is transported by a rotating action of the rotating body. It is characteristic of the image forming apparatus to be provided with a light emitting part emitting light passing in a direction which is approximately in parallel to the rotating axis to the rotating surface of the rotating body, a light receiving part receiving light emitted from the light emitting part and a judging part judging an existence of wrapping of the recording medium on the rotating body based on the information from the light receiving part.
