SURFACE LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND BACKLIGHT UNIT USING THE SAME

A surface light source device and a backlight unit using the same are provided to lower the discharge firing voltage of the surface light source device and improve the brightness, by forming auxiliary members in a discharge space to facilitate the electron emission. A surface light source device comprises a discharge space and electrodes(160). The discharge space is composed of channels(150) defined by a plurality of barriers(140). A voltage is applied to the discharge space through the electrodes. One or more auxiliary members(170) are provided within the discharge space. The auxiliary members are swollen in the discharge space according to temperature increase of the electrodes, thereby facilitating the electron emission due to the electrodes. The auxiliary members are formed of a nickel alloy.
