An apparatus and a method of controlling power supplied to a fixing device of an image forming apparatus are provided to block heat-radiation of the fixing device when the fixing device abnormally operates while continuously radiating heat to restore the normal operation of the fixing device. An apparatus for controlling power supplied to a fixing device(210) of an image forming apparatus includes a sensor(230) and a controller(350). The sensor senses whether a door located at the side of the fixing device is opened or closed. The controller controls the supply of power to the fixing device according to the state of the door at the fixing device which is sensed by the sensor. The apparatus further includes a display(360) for displaying the state of the door at the fixing device.
