BACK LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME

A backlight assembly and an LCD having the same are provided to eliminate the need of optical sheets, thereby saving the manufacturing cost, by forming prism patterns on a light reflecting portion of a light guiding plate and forming a reflective polarizing layer on a light exiting portion of the light guiding plate. A lamp(112) generates a light. A light guiding plate includes a light entering portion(210), a light reflecting portion(220) extended from one side of the light entering portion, and a light exiting portion(230) extended from the other side of the light entering portion and facing the light reflecting portion. The light reflecting portion of the light guiding plate has first prism patterns(240). The light exiting portion of the light guiding plate has a reflective polarizing layer(250). A reflective sheet(120) is disposed on the light reflecting portion of the light guiding plate.
