<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for always keeping a leading writing position constant, irrespective of a recording paper which is supplied from a paper feed cassette to a main carrying path or a recording paper which is resupplied from a reversal carrying path to the main carrying path. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus 1, a timing control of sending the recording paper P whose trailing end part is nipped by the paper feed unit 22 after being fed from the paper feed cassette 2 to a transfer nip position 12 by a pair of resist rollers 8 is performed based on the recording paper detection by a main carrying path sensor 23.
