PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device for stable recording operation by preventing the step-out of a motor and excessive noise even if a stepping motor having any torque characteristic is used. SOLUTION: A stepping motor is used as an LF motor 10 for driving a medium transportation roller. A current profile table is stored in a ROM 71 of a CPU70 which is generated according to various torque characteristics of the stepping motor, about an optimum driving current value of the stepping motor with the torque characteristics. When information about torque characteristics of the LF motor 10 is inputted from an operation panel 50, the CPU70 based on the information about the inputted torque characteristics reads a current profile table corresponding to the torque characteristics from the ROM71 for setting a current profile table.
