PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical apparatus capable of preventing occurrence of difference (defocus) in focus detection results even in subjects of the same distance caused by the chromatic aberration of a photographic lens. SOLUTION: The optical apparatus is provided with: a focus detecting means by which light reflected by a subject is received by a pair of photo sensors, signals from the pair of photo sensors are relatively shifted to obtain a phase difference from a change in the relative amounts of signals from the pair of photo sensors, and thus focus detecting information is detected for conducting focus drive according to the phase difference; a detecting means for detecting a signal for each of the wavelength areas of the subject light; a holding means for holding pieces of defocus information of an optical system corresponding to the wavelength areas; and a control means for exerting control such that when the sinal ratio of each wavelength area is changed, the focus drive is altered based on the defocus information of the optical system.
