PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and a bit rate determining method that enable a radio broadcast to be recorded with sound quality that a user wants and is desirable depending on receiving conditions of the radio broadcast. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus is provided with a signal processor 12a for demodulating an IF signal output from a tuner 11, an encoder 14a for encoding the demodulated signal to record the signal on a hard disc 15, a receiving sensitivity detector 12b for detecting receiving sensitivity of a signal received by the tuner 11, and a bit rate determining unit 14b for determining a bit rate at the time of encoding the demodulated signal in the encoder 14a. If the receiving sensitivity of the signal received by the tuner 11 is varied, the bit rate is also accordingly varied depending on the variation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
