An expanding and contracting lamppost is provided to enable a user to repair a lamp device mounted to an upper part of the lamppost and attach materials to the upper part of the lamppost more conveniently and safely. An expanding and contracting lamppost(2) comprises a main post(4), one or more screws, a driving unit(18), one or more expansion/contraction units(7), and stoppers(14). The main post has a pipe form fixed to the ground by one end and opened at the upper part. The one or more screws are rotatably mounted inside the main post and screw-connected to one another. The driving unit is mounted at one side of the main post to rotate one of the screws, the one disposed at a lower part. The one or more expansion/contraction units are connected with corresponding screws in the main post, and moved up and down according to the rotation of the screw. The innermost expansion/contraction unit is screw-connected with the outermost screw. The stoppers are provided to each end of the screws and the expansion/contraction units.
