METHOD FOR DESIGNING THE CONTROLLER OF HARD DISK DRIVES AND APPARATUS THEREOF

A method and an apparatus for designing a controller of an HDD(Hard Disc Drive) are provided to allow the HDD to have the optimum performance and have a stable characteristic for a characteristic deviation according to the HDD and a head by calculating a coefficient of the controller to minimize a position following error obtained from a plant model. A plurality of plant models for a notch filter of an HDD and a plurality of HSAs(Head Stack Assemblies) are obtained(900,910). An equivalent position disturbance is obtained by using a plurality of the plant models(920). A controller parameter value for satisfying certain stability standard for a plurality of the plant models and simultaneously minimizing an average position following error for the equivalent position disturbance of the HDD is calculated(930).
