<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily recover image quality when the image quality is degraded by scratches on the circumferential face of a photoreceptor, by reducing time and effort needed for replacement of a component causing the degradation in the image quality. <P>SOLUTION: When the quality of an image formed on a recording medium S is degraded due to scratches on the circumferential face of the photoreceptor 6, the photoreceptor 6 having the scratches on the circumferential face and a transfer member 5 that may be the most likely cause of the scratches on the photoreceptor 6 are integrally replaced as a transfer unit 25. This reduces time and effort needed for the replacement of the component causing the degradation in the image quality.
