<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a main disease name included in an input character string inputted by a doctor etc. in high speed (efficiently) based on the main disease name DB in which a candidate of the main disease name corresponding to an ICD code etc. are memorized. <P>SOLUTION: Specification of a suffix performed by retrieving a partial character string extracted from a suffix DB by sequentially decreasing the number of characters from the maximum number of characters of the suffix in its rear end side (S5), and specification of a prefix performed by retrieving a partial character string extracted from a prefix DB by sequentially increasing the number of characters from the minimum number of characters of the prefix in its head side (S9) are performed individually about the input character string. The main disease name is specified by searching the main disease name DB for residual character strings (S3, S12) after removing the specified suffix and the prefix in every case when the specification is performed.
