PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of improving the appearance of an image picked-up image in the image pickup of the identical composition by executing a warning to image pickup conditions prior to the image pickup. SOLUTION: A distance to each object in an image pickup screen is measured, and the object located at the shortest distance from a camera is set as the main object. Next, it is judged whether or not the image pickup is the vertical image pickup. In the case of the vertical image pickup, it is judged whether or not the main object is a person and whether or not a face is included. When the face is included, the occupying ratio of the facial area included in the main object is calculated. It is judged whether or not the ratio is less than a prescribed ratio. When the ratio is less than the prescribed ratio, the angle of the optical axis of the camera to the horizontal direction is determined. It is judged whether or not the posture of the camera is the posture of the elevation angle image pickup depending on whether or not the angle is a prescribed angle. When it is not the posture of the elevation angle image pickup, image pickup advice is given from at least either of an LCD and a speaker. It is judged whether or not an image picking-up person changes the posture by receiving the image pickup advice. Then, it is shifted to the case that the posture is changed.
