PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a plastic optical fiber (POF), a method enabling a POF to be obtained that has a small outer diameter fluctuation in the longitudinal direction, by maximizing drawing in the entire length of a heating furnace. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the POF has a drawing process 4 in which an unstretched POF 1 is drawn while making it to travel in the heating furnace 32. The method is characterized by the drawing process in which the temperature of the POF immediately before the entrance of the heating furnace is set at Tg-90°C to Tg-30°C in the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the core material of the POF.
