A dry rectifier arrangement comprises a plurality of cooling means each associated with at least one rectifier element and having a duct for the passage of electrolytic coolant supplied by conduits of insulating material. The conduits are so connected to the ducts that coolant passes successively through the latter and the inner surface of at least the inlets and outlets of the ducts is provided with a lining of material resistant to electrolytic corrosion or is made of such material. The lining may be electroplated or coated or precious metal, a lacquer or a flexible thin-walled tube of insulating material of good heat conductivity inserted within the coolant path and supported by the walls thereof running either between the inlet and outlet of each duct or running continuously through the ducts and intervening conduits. The tube adopts the form of the channel in which it runs which may be shaped to give a large cooling area for unit cross section. A typical cooling means is shown in Fig. 1 where the sinuous duct 3 with a coating 6 is provided in a member 1 on which plate rectifier 7 is mounted and which is covered by a lid 2 carrying a similar plate rectifier 8. |
