PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a characteristic of a magnetostrictive element under different conditions while changing methods for a pressure load, in characteristic evaluation of the magnetostrictive element. SOLUTION: A pressure load applying means is made to be properly selected with replacement of one part in a device, or the like, in the device for measuring a displacement of the magnetostrictive element by applying the pressure load and a magnetic field onto the magnetostrictive element. For example, the device is provided with a mounting table 3 for mounting the magnetostrictive element, an abutting member support means 5 for supporting vertically movably an abutting member 10 contacting with the magnetostrictive element 1 to apply a load, on the mounting table 3, and a pushing means holding means 6 for holding a pushing means 20 for pushing the abutting member 10 in a prescribed position. The abutting member and the pushing means are respectively removable from the abutting member support means 5 and the pushing means holding means 6, and the plurality of kinds of abutting members and pushing means are thereby allowed to be supported and held.
