PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator or a moving sidewalk capable of improving the safety of passengers. SOLUTION: This handrail for the escalator or the moving sidewalk comprises a fixed guide device and a handrail body moving along the guide device during the operation. The guide device comprises a form-giving guide part 3 configured to include a lip guide 8 extending along the longitudinal direction L of the guide part 3. The handrail body 2 comprises two end part lips 5 formed in a strip shape and extending along two longitudinal end parts of the handrail body 2 in the strip shape. The end lip 5 is formed to advance in parallel with the longitudinal direction L when the handrail body 2 is moved in the lip guide 8. The guide part 3 substantially defines the shape of the handrail in its cross section in a direction parallel with its longitudinal direction L and a cross section in a direction vertical to its longitudinal direction L.
