The invention relates to the sterilization of air and in particular to methods of air processing that facilitate the sterilization of air as well as the disinfection of the air that is released into the environment after the processing. The method includes the steps of air passing through the discharge chamber where plasma is created. The ultraviolet radiation and the plasma radicals destroy the microorganisms. The sterilized air, comprised of large quantities of plasma radicals and sterilization products, passes through the catalyst chamber where, as much the plasma radicals as the products of the reactions are de-excited (inactivated) and form molecules of harmless gases.
