An apparatus and a method for scanning broadcasting channels are provided to search an optimized frequency of a broadcasting channel by finely scanning frequencies according to a scanning step defined by a user. An apparatus for scanning broadcasting channels includes a controller(330) and a channel scanning unit(310,320). The controller sequentially sets frequencies for broadcasting channel scanning according to at least one scanning step value for channel scanning, which is inputted in response to a control signal. The channel scanning unit receives the frequencies set by the controller and scans the frequencies to search a broadcasting channel frequency. A method for scanning broadcasting channels includes a step of receiving and storing scanning step values inputted in response to a control signal, and a step of increasing or decreasing a frequency in response to the stored scanning step values to search a broadcasting channel frequency.
