A regenerator, a method of manufacturing the regenerator, a Stirling engine, and a Stirling refrigerator. The refrigerator installed in the Stirling engine comprises a regenerator film (31) wound up while providing clearances therein. The regenerator film (31) is formed in a multi-layer structure by laminating a first film (31A) on a second film (31B). Projected parts are formed on the regenerator film (31) by elastically deforming its surface by pressing in a DR3 or DR4 direction. The heat storing capacity of the first film (31A) is larger than that of the second film (31B), and the Young's modulus of the second film (31B) is higher than that of the first film (31A).
