The return flow restrictor valve (8c) for a fuel injection unit of an internal combustion engine includes a valve piston, the crown (17c) of which, together with an end wall (18c) forming the valve seat (19), forms on the outside a plate valve (20). In the case of the piston crown lying on the valve seat, the plate valve closes openings which extend through the end wall in the longitudinal direction, and with the piston crown lifted from the valve seat, frees the openings so that flow passes through the valve in the direction of the fuel injection valve with low restriction.
