An imaging device is provided with an optical system (1) which focuses light from an object at a prescribed position; an imaging device (2) for obtaining an image of the object; and a sampling control section (imaging device drive control section (13)), which operates in a plurality of sampling modes including at least first sampling mode for obtaining luminance information for obtaining focusing information of an optical system (1) on the object and second sampling mode for recording the image of the object, and controls the imaging device to operate in the first sampling mode before operating in the second sampling mode.
