Provided are a secondary battery, wherein an electrolytic solution injection hole does not require a separate stopper and is sealed by a protrusion formed on a lead plate, and a manufacturing method thereof, which increases a process efficiency and saves a production cost. The secondary battery comprises: a case with one side open; an electrode assembly(250) which is provided in the inside of the case and has the first and second electrode taps(215,225) drawn upwardly; a cap assembly having a cap plate(110) that covers an opening of the case and has an electrolytic solution injection hole(112) at one side; a protective circuit board connected to the cap assembly; and a lead plate(410) that is installed in the upside of the cap plate(110) to connect the cap assembly to the protective circuit board and has a protrusion(413) for covering the electrolytic solution injection hole(112) at the lower part.
