#CMT# #/CMT# Sluice sludge (5) is passed over a substrate containing worms in a predation reactor (6). #CMT# : #/CMT# A process for purifying an aqueous wastewater flow (3) comprises the following steps: (A) separating the flow into an effluent and sluice sludge; and (B) converting the sludge into predated sluice sludge (9) in a predation reactor comprising a substrate containing worms, in which the sludge is made to flow over the substrate. An independent claim is also included for the process apparatus, the reactor comprising two compartments separated by the substrate containing the worms. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The predated sludge can be used for transporting fish, as a binder for agricultural chemicals or as a toxic agent, enzyme source, detergent, protein-rich additive or fertilizer, or in adhesives, coatings, biodegradable plastics or compositions containing surfactants (claimed). The process is suitable for treating sewage and industrial wastewater. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Sluice sludge is converted into a useful end product. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The figure shows a block diagram representing the process apparatus. 3 : wastewater flow 5 : sluice sludge 6 : predation reactor 9 : predated sluice sludge #CMT#BIOLOGY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: Aquatic worms are used, preferably Lumbriculus variegates. |
