The invention relates to an umbrella, in particular a hand-held umbrella, fr ee- standing umbrella, or traffic light visor for protection against the rain, o r for use as a sunshade. Said umbrella comprises a canopy (1), a supporting construction (2) for said canopy (1) and an illumination unit (3) that is allocated to the supporting construction (2). The aim of the invention is to provide the greatest possible protection for the illumination unit (3), whil st giving the umbrella a particularly aesthetic appearance. To achieve this, th e invention is characterised in that the illumination unit (3) of the supporti ng construction (2) is essentially integrated into the umbrella.
