The method to assist a starting process from a stationary state of a motor vehicle entails checking whether different road friction factors on the left hand and right hand side of the vehicle are present, and upon establishing the presence of different road friction factors on the wheels on the left and right hand side, the brake pressure in one wheel brake which is associated with the driving wheel with a higher friction factor is decreased, while the brake pressure is maintained at a predetermined level in the brake associated with the wheel with the lower friction factor. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a computer programme which defines an algorithm which comprises a method to assist a starting process; and (2) a device to assist a starting process from a stationary state of a vehicle.
