The operating process involves opening the inlet valves of the cylinders of one bank only slightly, or at least less than the inlet valve of the cylinders of the other bank, under partial load, while the inlet valves of the cylinders of the other bank are opened wide enough to cover the load entirely, or almost so, from this bank alone, adjusting the openings so that each bank covers half the load.
