It is possible to obtain a highly accurate polarization image. A polarization microscope includes: an illumination optical system (3) having a light source, a polarizer for converting the polarized state of the illumination light from the light source, and a condenser lens for converging the illumination light which has passed through the polarizer to a sample; an imaging optical system having an objective lens for converging the observation light from the sample, an analyzer for converting the polarized state of the observation light converged by the objective lens, and an imaging element for imaging the observation light which has passed through the analyzer; an observation light angle compensation element for compensating the change of the rotation angle of the polarization plane of the observation light in the imaging optical system; and an observation light phase difference compensation element for compensating the change of the phase difference between a P-polarized light and an S-polarized light of the observation light in the imaging optical system. The compensation amount obtained by these compensation elements changes along the direction intersecting the optical axis.
