An insertion section (2) has a rotating tube body (12) as a propulsion force generation means. The rotating tube body (12) forms the outer peripheral surface of the insertion section (2) inserted into a subject, and is provided at a forward end section (11) of the insertion section (2) so as to be rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the insertion section (2). The insertion section (2) is inserted into a subject by an insertion device having a rotation drive section (3) for rotating the rotating tube body (12). The insertion section (2) has a spiral ridge (12A) provided on the rotation tube body (12) and generating propulsion force by being in contact with the subject. That portion of the spiral ridge (12A) that can come into contact with the subject is formed from an electrically non-conductive material.
