The invention relates to a steering gear (8) for a rack and pinion steering system, comprising a housing (10), in which a rack (12) runs such as to be displaced along the axis (A) thereof, with an auxiliary support (26), located at an axial end (22, 24) of the housing (10) whereby the auxiliary support (26) limits a deflection of the rack (12).
