A composition for producing a building item (4) comprises: finely subdivided inert materials, an alkali metal polysilicate, an oxidizing agent, formaldehyde; a method for producing a building item (4) comprises: dispersing finely subdivided inert materials in a solution of an alkali metal polysilicate, so as to obtain a mixture (1) ; adding an oxidizing agent and formaldehyde to said mixture (1) ; pouring said mixture (1) into mould means (2) , so as to enable said mixture (1) to expand in volume, solidify and produce said item (4) ; drying said item (4) . |
