Disclosed is a highly efficient organic electroluminescent device having long life and high luminance. Specifically disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device having an anode, a hole transporting layer, an organic light-emitting layer and a cathode on a substrate. This organic electroluminescent device is characterized in that the organic light-emitting layer contains an organic compound having a pyridine ring, a pyrazine ring or a triazine ring as a partial structure, and the hole transporting layer contains a monoamine compound represented by the following general formula (I). (I) (In the formula, R¹-R⁹ respectively represent a hydrogen atom, an aryl group or an alkyl group, and R¹-R⁹ may be the same as or different from one another. When R¹-R⁹ are aryl groups or alkyl groups, they may further have an aryl group or an alkyl group as a substituent.)
