An image taking system of a cellular phone using face recognition algorithm and a method thereof are provided to calculate a position of an object disposed on an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) screen by tracking the position of the object through the face recognition algorithm, thereby properly taking a picture without viewing a figure of the object. A camera unit(110) is installed while being fixed to a rear side of a cellular phone body. An LED(Light Emitting Diode) unit(120) is composed of plural LEDs which display a position of an object by being installed around the camera unit(110) at certain intervals. A face recognition algorithm executor(130) calculates position coordinates by tracking the position of the object from a moving image of the object, which is inputted through the camera unit(110) in real time. A controller(150) perceives the position of the object on a screen through the calculated position coordinates of the object, and instructs on/off actions for each LED of the LED unit(120).
