<p>Polymers of olefins such as ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, butadiene 1-3 or isoprene, used for encapsulating glass fibres may be made by adding one catalyst component, preferably one which binds to glass such as titanium chloride, and then the olefin monomer, to a suspension of fibres and the other component, such as aluminium triethyl, in an inert organic liquid, and polymerizing with heat with or without pressure, the material then being filtered and washed.ALSO:Glass fibres encapsulated in a polyolefin may be made by adding one catalyst component, preferably one which binds to glass such as titanium chloride, and then the olefin monomer, to a suspension of fibres, and the other component, such as aluminium triethyl, in an inert organic liquid, polymerizing with heat with or without pressure, filtering and washing. Olefin monomers usable may be ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, butadiene 1-3 or isoprene.</p> |
