A distance measurement method of a mobile communication terminal and the mobile communication terminal for performing the method are provided to receive distance data from a wireless transmitter attached to a car, and to display a distance between the car and a peripheral object by using the distance data so as to provide convenience to a user while the user uses the car. A mobile communication terminal maintains the first transmitter identifier for a wireless transmitter attached to a car, in a storage unit(201). The terminal receives distance data which includes the second transmitter identifier from the wireless transmitter(202,203). The terminal decides whether the first and second transmitter identifiers are the same, by referring to the storage unit(204). If so, the terminal displays a distance between the car and a peripheral object by using the received distance data(205).
