<p>A technology is provided which is useful in smoothly performing the storing operation of the seat belt in the seat belt retractor to be mounted on a vehicle in which the power transmission mechanism is switched from a connection state to a disconnection state by means of the rotational speed difference between the electric motor and the spool so as to release the connection between the electric motor and the spool. In a seat belt retractor 1 of a seat belt device 100 mounted on a vehicle, the power transmission mechanism 8 is switched from a connection state to a disconnection state by means of the rotational speed difference between the motor 6 and the spool 4 so as to release the connection between the electric motor 6 and the spool 4, and in particular, when the occurrence of the hold of the seat belt is detected during the retraction of the seat belt, it is possible to perform a control suitable for factors causing the hold of the seat belt (Fig. 2).
