<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste water treatment method capable of maintaining the activated sludge in a biological treating vessel to an exactly satisfactory state not too much and not too little, suppressing the generation of excess sludge, and also obtaining good water quality of treated water, and to provide an apparatus therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the waste water treatment apparatus 10, the waste water is regulated to an adequate phosphorus inflow ratio by a regulating means 39 and is supplied to the biological treating vessel 12. The waste water is aerobically subjected to biological treatment by mixing the same with the aeration air from an aerator 22 within the vessel 12. The amount of the activated sludge is managed in a sludge densitometer 20 and the supernatant liquid of the vessel 12 flows out to a solid-liquid separation tank 14.
