<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal position variable space modulation device good in imaging performance. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a refractive index variable material 30 disposed in luminous flux and capable of deflecting incident light, a plurality of electrode pairs 11 21; 12, 22; 13, 23 disposed to nearly face mutually on both sides of the refractive index variable material 30, in the shape of a concentric circle, a concentric ellipsoid, or a partial scaling factor concentric ellipsoid, and a voltage applying means applying a voltage among electrode pairs 11, 21; 12, 22; 13, 23. The width of the non-electrode facing area N between the electrode facing areas P is wider than the width of the electrode facing area P of spacing of electrode mutually opposing electrode of each electrode pairs 11, 21; 12, 22; 13, 23. The refractive index distribution of the refractive index variable material 30 of the non-electrode facing area N changes by the voltage applied to adjacent electrode pairs 11, 21; 12, 22; 13, 23, and the focal position changes.</p> |
