#CMT# #/CMT# The measurement is carried out using a portable device (6) comprising a reference body (8) with at least one pressure sensor (10) for measuring water pressure. The body has at least one reference point (12) separated from the sensor by a known distance. The measurement method comprises the following steps: (A) placing the sensor underwater while positioning the reference point at a height corresponding to the known height of a first part of the ship, e.g. deck railing (18), whilst the body is in a predetermined position relative to the ground; (B) calculating the vertical distance between the reference point and sensor on the basis of the body position and the known distance between the two; (C) measuring pressure; (D) using the measured pressure to calculate the vertical distance between the sensor and a given water surface (4); and (E) calculating the vertical distance between the water surface and the known height of the first part of the ship and/or the known height of a second part of the ship, e.g. the lowest part of the ship, on the basis of the vertical distance between the reference point and sensor and the vertical distance between the sensor and water surface. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for the measuring device, which includes a display (16) for the measured draught. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# For measuring the draught of a boat or ship. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The device is portable and does not have to be incorporated into the ship.
