A mobile communication terminal having a function for using an idle key and a control method therefor are provided to considerably improve the key usefulness of a key panel unit by using an idle key of the key panel unit when setting a plurality of blocks in a calendar display function. A display(2), installed in a partial body of a mobile communication terminal(1), displays continuous block designation on a calendar function activation picture. A key panel unit(3), installed in an external body of the mobile communication terminal(1), has a star key or a pound key for processing a function setup signal of a user and setting a continuous block designation function on the calendar function activation picture. A main control unit(4) detects the long press of the star key or the pound key of the key panel unit(3), and controls the continuous block designation function on the calendar function activation picture.
