A method for compressing and managing a file in a mobile communication terminal is provided to efficiently use a memory space by embedding a compression program capable of compressing the file in the mobile communication terminal, and compressing a file having a low frequency. If a file to be compressed is selected in a waiting state, the corresponding file is compressed(203,206). If the file is compressed, an original file is deleted. The compressed file is stored in a non-volatile region. If a request for decompressing the file is received, it is judged whether the file will be used once. If the file will be used once, it is judged whether a region capable of decompressing the corresponding file is sufficient in a RAM. If the region capable of decompressing the corresponding file is sufficient in the RAM, the corresponding compression file is decompressed in the RAM region and the decompressed file is executed.
