The invention discloses a base for a lamp, in particular a high-pressure discharge lamp, having an accommodating area for electronic components of the lamp and having a chamber for the purpose of accommodating at least one further electronic component, for example a transformer, an electrical contact element being arranged in the base and connecting a voltage output of the transformer to a power supply line of the lamp via a connecting region. According to the invention, the connecting region is electrically insulated from the accommodating area of the base by means of a contact cover.
