摘要 A laser diode emits a pumped beam (19) of a given cross-section and a wavelength chosen to bring laser ions e.g. ytterbium ions, of an active material into an excited state and entering into an incoming spot (47) in the layer with an angle of incidence. An optic gain zone (20) has volume and a positioning in the layer that are adjustable based on the cross-section of the beam (19) and the angle of incidence, by utilizing the incoming spot. The volume of the zone (20) is less than that of the layer (13).
