A remote control device for an alarm system and a control method thereof are provided to enable a user to arbitrarily set the sensitivity of a shock sensor at remote place, using a portable device according to the peripheral environment. A sensitivity setting unit(70) having plural set buttons is installed in a portable device(10), and a shock sensor module(80) for setting the sensitivity of a shock sensor(25) is installed between the shock sensor and a controller(23), so that the shock sensor module is controlled by using the sensitivity setting unit and a user controls the sensitivity of the shock sensor at remote place. The shock sensor module has an amplifier(82) amplifying an electric signal input from the shock sensor, a rectifier(84) rectifying the amplified signal, and a comparator(86) comparing a signal output from the rectifier with a reference voltage.
