An apparatus for controlling a slide of a press machine is provided to safely protect the mold and the driving unit of the slide according to the auto setting of the stop position of the slide on the basis of the position data of the object. An apparatus for controlling a slide of a press machine comprises a position detector mounted at the driving shaft connecting the slide and the motor to sense the rotation of the driving shaft and detect the position of the slide; a main processor connected with the position detector and a power control unit of the motor to control the operation of the motor according to the detected position value to save the inputted slide position value; a memory where the slide position data processed by the main processor are stored; an input unit for inputting the manual or automatic movement commands of the slide through the main processor; and a display unit for displaying the information outputted through the main processor.
