PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic toner which allows proper coloration, without having to bring dispersibility in a thermoplastic resin into question, and which is superior in transparency, color reproducibility, heat resistance, charging properties and offset resistance. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic toner is obtained, by dispersing, in a thermoplastic resin, colored fine particles containing a resin having a composition different from that of the thermoplastic resin and a dye, and the electrophotographic toner is is characterized in that the dye is a coloring matter, represented by Formula (1), wherein R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>each represent H or a substituent; and Z<SB>1</SB>and Z<SB>2</SB>each represent a group of atoms required to form a 5- or 6-membered ring and may have a substituent.
