When two optical fibres (10a, 10b) are connected, zones (LB1, LB2) at the respective fibre ends (BS1, BS2) of the two optical fibres are heated by a splicing device (40). This produces a luminous phenomenon at the heated zones (LB1, LB2). Splintering (12a, 12b) or dirt (V1, V2) in the area of the connection point between the two optical fibres increases the radiation intensity of the luminous phenomenon during splicing. The radiation is detected by a photosensitive component (61), then analysed. The radiation intensity of the detected radiation gives information on splicing attenuation at the connection point (VS) between the two optical fibres (10a, 10b). |
